In a quiet Parisian street, a pretty madame, her husband, who is still asleep that morning, and an obliging servant live in a town house in all honesty. The day might have gone on as usual if... if only the master of the house hadn't woken up so late in the morning with a terrible hangover, wearing the remains of his rumpled clothes and his head empty. The only certainty is that he is terribly thirsty and there are pellets, lumps of coal, a woman's cap and a slipper in his bed. And something else - a snoring individual with an equally wrinkled exterior. The culmination of his morning wanderings is the chance reading of an article about the mysterious murder of a coal woman in Lourcine Street.
